Dealing with problematic people

From what we quote from the net, “a problem exists when an individual becomes aware of a significant difference between what actually is and what is desired.”

In our context problematic people in class during presentation usually are students. We as presenters have to go back to the root of the problem in order to determine the solutions later on.

Why problematic people exits? From our research 70% of the reason this problem happens because of the presenter. The most common thing that triggers the problem is wrong selection of topic. The topic might bore the audiences. Secondly, the presenter speech, either low voice projection or speaking to fast may affect the audiences’ concentration. Sometimes level of knowledge of the audience will make the presenter lack of confidence and nervous which will cause the presenter tend to make mistakes.

Certain presenter doesn’t use the body language in a correct way such as eye contact, body gesture and etc. He must show full interest towards the presentation.

Other than presenter students’ attitude also play the main role. Sometimes they are self-centered, they don’t care anything else. Students disrespect the presenter by doing other things instead of concentrate and they themselves not interested either the topic or the presenter himself. Last but not least some audience may have ADT, Attention Deficit Trait but they are not aware of it. ADT is a syndrome where the person is too obsess with the technology such as handphone, psp and etc.

What are the problem that problematic people do when the presenter are presenting their presentation. On the top of the list, is doodling, as they only need a piece of paper and pencil to doodle. Next, day dreaming. Some people, body here but mind outside somewhere else and then talking to each other which also will distract other people, listening to mp3,and sms.

Actually the presentation need to have its magical touch such as visual support-flip chart, slides, handout, models; audio support then only it would attract the audience’s precious interest. Another key is found, “interest”. It is hard to measure people’s interest as they vary from each other. The idea is to come out with a solution that can gather all of their interest and focus on the presenter. This is the skill that normally a presenter lack of , in other word they need to acquire this set of skill in order to deliver a superb presentation. What is means by superb here is, the audience get the right picture and maintained with the presenter until the presentation settled.
