Novelty, creativity, innovation & invention.

In today's lecture, Mr. Razi talked about the history and importance of novelty, creativity, innovation and invention.

Slide 19
"The creative person is one who generates new ideas while the creative process is how these new ideas, solutions, and inventions are produced. It is said that, we are all naturally creative. From poetry to building a house, from computer programming to humor, from music to science, creativity is manifested in a variety of different ways. The aim is to understand the complexity of creativity and to comprehend its mystery through a structured program of learning."

Taken from lecture slides.

To get further understanding, i searched at Google for these key words and found a couple of information.

"Novelty is the quality of being new. Although it may be said to have an objective dimension (e.g. a new style of art coming into being, such as abstract art or impressionism) it essentially exists in the subjective perceptions of individuals. It also refers to something novel; that which is striking, original or unusual."

"Creativity is a mental and social process involving the generation of new ideas or concepts, or new associations of the creative mind between existing ideas or concepts. An alternative conception of creativeness is that it is simply the act of making something new."
"The term innovation means a new way of doing something. It may refer to incremental, radical, and revolutionary changes in thinking, products, processes, or organizations. A distinction is typically made between Invention, an idea made manifest, and innovation, ideas applied successfully."

"An invention is the finding or creation of a new configuration, composition of matter, device, or process. Some inventions are based on pre-existing models or ideas. Other inventions are radical breakthrough which may extend the boundaries of human knowledge or experience."

Example:
Based on above, we can see that these key words are interrelated. Therefore, in order to be creative, we need to combine these aspects together. I believe that if one can master this technique, he or she will be a legendary people in the history of mankind. To support my statement, have a look at these examples:

Sir Einstein has invented many formulas, but most of them are pretty hard to understand as the ideas are different from existing ones. Gradually, people start to appreciate his works and in the end he received nobel award.
Sir Leonardo Da Vinci. He is known for his creative works as came out with many creative ideas. Some example of his ideas:

Want to be famous like them? Be creative from now onwards!
